Mapping Desire / David Bell
Titre : Mapping Desire : Geographies of Sexuality Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs et autres personnes : David Bell, Auteur ; Gill Valentine, Auteur Editeur : Londres/New York [UK/USA] : Routledge Année : 1995 Importance : 370 pages ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 2800415111647 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Sciences humaines:Sociologie, anthropologie Index. décimale : Pastille bleue (en anglais) Armoires Sciences Humaines. Langue = anglais. Résumé : This is the first book to explore sexualities from a geographical perspective. The nature of place and notions of space are of increasing centrality to cultural and social theory. Mapping Desire presents the rich and diverse world of contemporary sexuality, exploring how the heterosexual body has been appropriated and resisted on the individual, community and city scales. The geographies presented here range across Europe, America, Australasia, Africa, the Pacific and the imaginary, cutting across city and country and analysing the positions of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and heterosexuals. The contributors ring different interests and approaches to bear on theoretical and empirical material from a wide range of sources. The book is divided into four sections: cartographies/identities; sexualised spaces: global/local; sexualised spaces: local/global; sites of resistance. Each section is separately introduced. Beyond the bibliography, an annotated guide to further reading is also provided to help the reader map their own way through the literature. Note de contenu : Section 1: Cartographies/Identities (Julia Cream, Clare Hemmings, Glen Elder, Alison Murray, Lidna McDowell)
Section 2: Sexualised Spaces: Global/Local (Lynda Johnston and Gill Valentine, Sally Munt, Gregory Woods, Lawrence Knopp)

Titre : The Sexual Citizen : Queer Politics and Beyond Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs et autres personnes : David Bell, Auteur ; Jon Binnie, Auteur Edition : 2000 Editeur : Cambridge [Royaume-Uni] : Polity Année : 2000 Importance : 176 pages ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-0-7456-1654-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Langues originales : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Sciences humaines:Sociologie, anthropologie Index. décimale : Pastille bleue (en anglais) Armoires Sciences Humaines. Langue = anglais. Résumé : The notion of citizenship, with its balancing of rights and responsibilities, has become a dominant way of articulating sexual politics today. In The Sexual Citizen, David Bell and Jon Binnie critically explore the notion of sexual citizenship as a way to think through the ever-changing political, legal, social and cultural landscapes of sexuality.
The book examines sexual citizenship in a number of key sites of contemporary sexual politics (the market, marriage, the military, the city, the family) and focuses on a number of key theoretical debates on sexuality in relation to consumption, space and globalization. Critiquing existing theories of sexuality and citizenship, and drawing on a wide range of theoretical perspectives, The Sexual Citizen addresses both the promises and limitations of using the discourses of citizenship in the context of contemporary sexual politics.
The Sexual Citizen will be of interest to students and academics in lesbian and gay studies, politics, legal studies, sociology, cultural studies and geographyNote de contenu : Table of contents
